Convened by the California Commission on Access to Justice

The California Commission on Access to Justice invites you to attend the first regional meeting for the Modest Means Incubator Project on Thursday, April 24 at the State Bar of California Office in San Francisco.

Providing adequate legal assistance to those who cannot afford it has long been a challenge for our profession. The economic downturn in recent years has brought added urgency to that challenge, and this topic is now at the forefront of discussions on the future of the profession both nationally and here in California. Millions of Americans need but cannot afford lawyers, and there has never been a better time to think creatively about the solutions.

The Modest Means Incubator Project is part of a national movement intended to connect practical training for new lawyers with providing excellent and affordable legal assistance to low and moderate income clients on a range of topics including family and housing law, labor code violations, consumer debt, and more.

At this inaugural meeting, you will learn about successful incubator models that train new attorneys to address the modest means justice gap, meet and collaborate with key stakeholders, and learn about funding opportunities.

Who should attend:

Organizations interested in helping low and moderate income clients and train new lawyers by establishing legal incubator projects. This is open to Law School Deans, Law School Clinics, Legal Services Programs, Pro Bono Practice Program attorneys & coordinators, Bar Associations, Law Librarians, Large Law Firms, Existing Incubators, Solo and Small Firm Sections, Court-based services, Self-Help Centers, and Family Law Facilitators
